‘Prem Jogan’ is the evergreen Khayal in raga Sohni by Bade Ghulam Ali Khan in the 1960 magnum opus Mughal-E-Azam, the star crossed love story of Prince Salim and court
dancer Anarkali. In this recital love is taken to a divine realm. A blend of Kathak and Bharatanatyam, performed to the same song, depicts the eternal Bhakti filled love of Saint Meera for Lord Krishna. In a dream like state Meera meets her Lord Krishna where Krishna has adorned himself as Meera and he is the devotee; when Shringara transforms into Bhakti.
The choreography by Sunil Sunkara (Kathak) and Ragavarshini Shankar (Bharatnatyam) converts sensuous love into devotion. The Sangeet Ka Toda added in brings energy to the dance recital. Music production and arrangement is by Natalia Hildner, a Peruvian American who is a student of Pandit Birju Maharaj.
Vocal -Anol Chatterjee
Music Arrangement -Chandrachur Bhattacharjee
